3 Steps to Make Affirmations Work You

You’re probably thinking, “not another article about the power of affirmation!"


WAIT…Before you decide to ditch this page I need you to promise me one thing. Promise me that you will read this to the end and no matter how simple or easy each inspired action step may be that you will commit to its completion. I’m going to pretend you just gave me a virtual head nod, saying “Yes, Natasha I will give it a try because I’m committed to my breakthrough”. Now that we have a clear understanding, let’s get started.  


Affirm by definition means that you are declaring something to be true. You are always in a state of affirmation whether it be positive or negative. Your words have power, presence and assignment over your life. You can attract success much faster when you have the mindset and attitude to support what it is you desire. 


Let’s simplify this, I consider affirmation to be like music. When you hear your favorite tune, what happens? Your shoulder starts jerkin’, your head starts swaying, you might add in hand gestures—your mood and state of mind starts to change. Your focus shifts in that moment. Take 5-10 minutes to envision your favorite tune and how it makes you feel. 


So, remember that virtual promise you made with me at the beginning of this post? Here are 3 simple steps that you can use to make affirmations work for you. 


Make a list of your negative affirmations.


It amazes me how quickly someone will ditch a friend who speaks negative about them but are unwilling to stop that inner noise for themselves. I want you to become your best inner coach that will support your wildest dreams, aspirations and desire. You become more aware of what’s going on instead your head when you name the chaos that could be sabotaging your success, on a sheet of paper or journal write out your negative thoughts. 


Rewrite It. 


Rewrite and turn your negative affirmation into a positive statement. For example, instead of saying I will never succeed with my finances, you could rewrite I am a happy Chief Financial Officer of my life. When you read each sentence, notice which one gives you more energy. Reread them again.  


Let’s try another one. I am a failure. I deserve the good measure that flows with success. Notice which sentence empowers you to focus on the possibilities.  


Offer gratitude with your affirmations rather than just making a statement, include emotions like happy, excited, proud, joyful, loving, or deserving. 


Speak It.


On a fluorescent card or post it note, I want you to place your positive affirmation in a visible area for you to revisit and repeat. It is said that it takes about 21 days for a habit to take root, so aim to keep your affirming power talk going for a month.
